What To Think Of When Planning Your Electrical Work..

Below is a short guide to help you with all the usual choices to be made with new Electrical Work.

By giving these areas some thought it will help you and your electrical contractor come to some quick design solutions. Please download and fill out the Capture Sheets to help you quickly note down your choices.

  • General Choices
  • White Switches & Sockets or Metal/ Chrome/ Coloured?
  • How Many Telephone Points and to which rooms?

    Data Network Points (Cat5e/6a RJ45 Points) to connect TVs, Computers and improve WiFi coverage with WiFi Access Points?

    TV Points. How many TV Points and which rooms, Lounge, Kitchen & Bedrooms? Will you require Sky TV Points?

  • Bathrooms
  • Recessed Down-Lights? - LED or Traditional Filament Lamps? White, Chrome or Brushed Chrome Bezel?
  • Pull Cord Light Switch or Wall Mounted Switch? If Wall Mounted they usually have to be mounted outside of the bathroom.

    Mirror Light? With Integrated Shaver Point?

    Electric Shower, Power Shower or Shower from the Plumbing System?

    Under Floor Heating - Electric or Wet?

    Wet Towel Rail, Electric Towel Rail or Combined Wet & Electric Towel Rail?

    Wall Mounted/ Ceiling Mounted Fan? Is there a loft void above for an 'Inline Fan', which has the best Air Movement?

    Shaver Point? White, Chrome?

  • Kitchen
  • Recessed Down-Lights? - LED or Traditional Filament Lamps? White, Chrome or Brushed Chrome Bezel?
  • What integrated appliances are you having? Usually: Electric Oven, Electric Hob, Fridge/ Freezer, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer, Cooker Hood, Microwave.

    Are you having High Loading Appliances Such As Induction Hobs or Large Electric Ovens? If so make sure you ask for the 'Electrical kW Rating' or the 'Load in Amps'.

    How many sockets above the work surface do you need?

    Are you having a 'Re-Circulating' or 'Ducted' Cooker Extract Hood?
